Ga met mij mee op een virtuele reis bestaande uit 18 haltes waarvan iedere halte je gegarandeerd zal verrassen. 

Zo stap je samen met Henk Hofstede en Nescio in een Amsterdamse tram. Je ontmoet Marlene Dietrich in een donker straatje in Lübeck. Met Piet Mondriaan wandel je door het dorp van zijn jeugd. Samen met Françoise Hardy verken je de (on)mogelijkheid van de liefde. Je koopt een kompas in een Zuid-Engels dorp en steekt de Mersey over. En je lost samen met een 128 jaar geleden geboren vrouw het mysterie op van het gestolen kindje. En misschien schuif je voor het slapen gaan samen met Tessa Boomkamp de gordijnen dicht.

Dit en nog veel meer zijn de haltes op SWITCH – een geheel verzorgde muzikale reis van Jan Hovers, over kansen in het leven die gegrepen dienen te worden en knoppen die omgedraaid kunnen worden. 

Het leven bestaat uit fases die vaak geruisloos in elkaar overgaan. Maar soms moet je zelf een schakelaar omdraaien om een oude fase af te sluiten en een nieuwe te beginnen. De laatste keer dat Jan Hovers dat deed was in 2020 toen hij besloot van de grote stad naar de provincie te verhuizen en zijn werkende leven in loondienst te beëindigen. Op 1 februari 2021 draaide hij de knop helemaal om. Voortaan richtte hij zich volledig op zijn muziek, kunst en podcasts. In gretige haast toog hij aan het werk om na een jaar zijn debuutalbum uit te brengen. Het op vinyl geperste en in Abbey Road gemasterde album “Climb” werd een bonte verzameling van nummers die hij in de tijd van een leven had geschreven. Maar het was tevens een belangrijk eerste project op weg naar het vinden van zijn eigen handschrift en werkwijze. Nu is hier zijn tweede album, opgedragen aan die omgedraaide knop.

De strijkers- en blazersarrangementen werden grotendeels door Oekraïense musici ingespeeld. 

SWITCH verschijnt 3 oktober 2024 op alle bekende streamingdiensten zoals Spotify, Apple Music en YouTube. 
Tevens verschijnt er gelijktijdig een luxe CD-uitgave, inclusief 4 extra bonustracks en twee rijk geïllustreerde boekjes (Ned/Eng).

You’ll embark on an Amsterdam tram with Henk Hofstede, the frontman of the Dutch band Nits, alongside Nescio, a celebrated Dutch author. Picture yourself encountering Marlene Dietrich in a dimly lit street in Lübeck, Germany. Imagine strolling through the childhood village of the iconic Dutch painter Piet Mondriaan. With the legendary French singer Françoise Hardy, you will explore the (im)possibilities of love. Perhaps you’ll purchase a compass in a quaint village in Southern England and then cross the Mersey River, famously linked to Liverpool and The Beatles. Later, you might help a woman, born 128 years ago, solve the mystery of a stolen child. And before drifting off to sleep, you might draw the curtains with Tessa Boomkamp, a Dutch musician known for her work with prominent bands.

These stops, and many more, form the narrative of SWITCH—a meticulously crafted musical journey by Jan Hovers. It’s a journey that explores the opportunities life presents and the decisive moments where we must turn a switch to change course.

Life is composed of phases that often transition smoothly, almost unnoticed. But sometimes, you must consciously turn a switch to close one chapter and begin another. The last time Jan Hovers did this was in 2020, when he decided to leave the bustling city life for the tranquility of the countryside and end his career as an employee. On 1 February 2021, he fully committed to this change, dedicating himself entirely to his passions: music, art, and podcasting. With fervent enthusiasm, he set to work, and within a year, he released his debut album. This album, titled “Climb,” was a vibrant collection of songs he had written throughout his life, pressed on vinyl and mastered at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London. But more importantly, it marked the beginning of his journey to discovering his unique artistic voice and process. Now, he presents his second album, a tribute to that pivotal switch he turned.

The album features contributions from notable artists such as Henk Hofstede (of the Nits), Tessa Boomkamp (known for her roles in the Edwin Evers Band and the Sven Hammond Big Band), Hanna Prins (a German singer), Marcel van der Linden, Petra Gaffke, and others. The string and brass arrangements were largely performed by talented Ukrainian musicians.

SWITCH will be available on 3 October 2024 on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. Additionally, a deluxe CD edition will be released, featuring 4 bonus tracks and two richly illustrated booklets in both Dutch and English.
